Rise’s Radical Renegade is a monthly series featuring interviews with trailblazing career mavens. Meet Alexandra Spergel, founder of The Nomad’s Direction – a company that provides a fully detailed and flexible guide for safe traveling.
Why did you start your company and what motivates you every day?
My mission is to show Americans that traveling the world is safe, accessible, and more affordable than one might think. Experiencing my own travels and watching my clients’ trips come to life motivates me the most!
What are some of the major lessons you’ve learned along the way?
To know that the root of all successful people, is a successful community and team. It takes a village! I learned to strip my “independent boss babe” attitude, and know that asking for help and guidance would push me and my company that much further.
Tell us about a setback you’ve faced and how did you overcome it?
The frequent dance of taking side jobs to keep my money flow, and leaving those side jobs to focus wholly on my company. I’m still working on perfecting this balance, but I overcame it by accepting it. Going back to more additional financial help doesn’t mean I failed!
What advice do you have for women who feel stuck in their careers?
Any idea worth fantasizing about is an idea worth following through. Say yes to yourself more!
We all know how difficult work/life balance is, how do you draw the line to create separation in these two spheres?
Taking breaks throughout the day, steady practice of yoga and meditation.
We love to support women-founded ventures. Is there a company/product that you’ve come across recently that you think more people should know about?
I just learned about Small Packages and think it’s so awesome! Care package company to send gifts to friends regarding breakups, illness, new babies, new jobs and more.
